His mother made a one-time inheritance into an extremely valuable collection. When he turned fifteen, he went to work for his father’s company, the Dior corporation. It was at this time when he began designing hats for his mother and using her inheritance to buy fabrics. He first showed his designs in 1939 in Paris where he became a huge success.

Christian Dior began his career as a young boy in France, growing up in La Suquet area of Paris. There he learned to decorate windows with stained glass, and create window scenes in his room with paintings and fabric. After leaving school, Christian Dior opened his own small fashion house and made a career for himself selling beautiful fabrics to top department stores such as Louis Vuitton, while maintaining his Dior perfume and fragrances. He loved his job, and it led him on to creating his own perfumes, bags and shoes. Christian Dior has created over forty perfumes that are sold all around the world.

Dior died of cancer in Paris, France, aged 51 on October 22, 1957 after suffering from the disease for seven years. His body was buried in the cemetery of his hometown, Thiais, in southern France.
